How get splitted midi files?
I got a midi file here for piano music. Unfortunately both left and right hand is only in upper range.
How can I get it splitted into two?

If there is still a (higher) pitch you can use as a splitting point, use MuseScore 3.6 where you can specify this during MIDI import. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/midi-import and in particular the "split staff" column.
Otherwise, you will have to cut and paste from the upper to the lower staff (or from the imported single staff to a new piano grand staff).

Thank you for your answer. Do you mean I have to use the older version 3.6 instead of 4.1.1?
And does it work with AppImage in Linux too?

Yes and yes.

Thank you. However, with AppImage in Linux Mint I can't see a MIDI Import Panel at the bottom. See my attached screenshot.

Of course not, as that is Mu4, which is not (yet) having that MIDI import panel

Was the comment by AndreasKågedal wrong? He wrote that it is doable with 3.6(+).

No, with 3.x, but not with Mu4. He didn't say 3.6+ but: use MuseScore 3.6

Thank you, I misunderstood your "Yes" above.
Is there any 3.6 package for Linux (.deb or AppImage)?
Meanwhile I check it on Windows...

Yes, see https://github.com/musescore/MuseScore/releases/tag/v3.6.2 or https://ftp.osuosl.org/pub/musescore-nightlies/linux/3x/stable/

Thanks again. Unfortunately, AppImage 3.6 does not start. It freezes when the popup with questions about data transfer appears, but the program runs fine in Windows. Unfortunately, I still cannot find the right setting for splitting the staves so that it appears correctly in the Smart Pianist of my Yamaha piano. In the screenshot I can either select both lines or only the upper/lower one. The original midi file, which is also from MuseScore, appears in MuseScore 3.6 from the beginning as I want it to appear on the piano. However, the view on the piano with or without split marking (and then saving) is only such that the upper line has both voice parts and the lower line has nothing.

Esc out of that dialog in the AppImage
Seems your MIDI has 2 pianos, not just one with 2 staves?
In reply to Esc out of that dialog by Jojo-Schmitz
ESC does it. Thanks. My downloaded MIDI is this one: https://musescore.com/user/29626412/scores/6334329
Edit: Many months ago I used ScanScore for editing MIDI to get the desired output on my piano. However, just for only 1 sheet I don't want to buy it again.

Why downloading that as a MIDI in the first place, if all you want it to import that into MuseScore again?

What would you suggest?

Just download and use the MuseScore file

I had gone the other way because that's how it worked with ScanScore back then, as far as I remember.
Anyway - I have since used the MuseScore file. But apparently there is no way to split the lines. So I just opened them in the program and exported them as MIDI.
The result was even worse: only the notes for the left hand were shown in the piano's "Smart Pianist".
There has to be a certain edited MIDI format to get it right on piano. I wonder how it can be done (beside ScanScore). Could you recommend an online converter?

Add another piano, copy/cut the notes from the bass clef, paste to the new piano's bass clef, delete the new piano's treble clef and the old piano's bass clef, export to MIDI

Thanks a lot again. It all worked really well, especially the RESULT! In Smart Pianist, bass and treble clef now appear as desired. Because the app has the advantage that I can practise left and right hand separately while the other voice is audible. And in addition, the notes are shown with LED lights above the keys...
Also MuseScore is working like a charm now in Linux too.
Have a wonderful week!

I still have an additional question:
In the 4.1 version I had seen a setting option for the notes in Midi Import, e.g. whether the shortest notes are 16th or 32nd notes. I currently need 32nd notes. How can I manage to get them in the exported file?
The original file has a lot of 32nd notes.
In reply to I still have an additional… by dancer18
A midi file does not contain 32:nd notes, or 16-notes or whole-notes. Only information on when a note should start and stop (and how hard the piano key is pressed, "velocity" etc). So this cannot be included in the exported midi-file. The "32nd note thing" is about importing a midi-file. And you are not doing that anymore.
In reply to A midi file does not contain… by AndreasKågedal
I have noticed that the 32nd notes are not displayed correctly when exporting to MIDI. See the two screenshots for comparison. If it makes sense, I could actually import the score as MIDI to MuseScore 4.1 and set up to 32nd notes in the settings, because I can also work with the method of adding another piano and copying over the bass line in 4.1.

I hope I have now understood your last answer, AndreasKågedal. After a further test, I luckily finally found a setting in "Smart Pianist" to make 32nd notes visible.
This setting was somewhat hidden, so I didn't see it right away.
This means that my query has been satisfactorily resolved and can be closed.
