Bring back text formatting shortcuts in MuseScore 4

• Dec 18, 2022 - 08:11

I use a lot of bold and italics in arranging scores. In MuseScore 3, I could easily do this with Command-B and Command-I respectively (I'm on Mac). But in MuseScore 4, when I try to do this, my desired formatting does not occur and I have to click on the formatting options in the side panel (which is not ideal because clicking breaks my workflow).

This could just be an oversight, but please reintroduce this feature in a later update, because it saves me loads of time and helps me keep churning notes. Thank you!

Agreed! Musescore please listen, and bring back the italics function! In musescore 3, whenever I was editing text, It presented the options for me to Bold, Italicize, or Underline as buttons, let alone the shortcut functions. But I'm pretty sure it was an oversight into Musescore 4, but those options arent there, and the shortcut Cmd-I doesn't even work. Thanks for bringing this issue to Musescore's attention!

seriously though. they also changed the make-a-tie shortcut from + to T. MS4 biggest let down since Fyre festival.

True, but then the same could be said for the majority of shortcuts in MuseScore. That's not realistically a battle that MuseScore - or any program, really - can win. Best you can do is try to be reasonably consistent and flexible. As defaults go, S for slur, T for tie, and -/+/= for flat/sharp/natural is tough to beat overall, but again, everyone is welcome to customize these to suit their own needs better.

In other words, changed from something hard to discover and remember, to something easy; and in the process, also cleared room to have actual shortcuts for accidentals for the first time in MuseScore history :-). But, if you prefer the original shortcuts for whatever reasobn, just customize them in Edit / Preferences / Shortcuts.
