I really want to love MuseScore 4 but . . . (horizontal frames/indentations)
. . . It's been two years now, and I'm sill using 3.6.2. I figured once 4 became stable, I would use it to create new scores, as well as go back through my old ones and "retrofit" them, using 4's "vastly improved spacing and layout algorithms." Oh sure, there would be a learning curve, retraining my fingers' muscle memory when inputting accidentals and ties, but . . .
And then I come up against something like this:
Gloria_Ambrosiana.mscz
Which displays in 3 as:
--which is sort of how I want it to look, horizontal frame indentations followed by part names--
but in 4 as:
(hey, where's the "image capture," anyway?)
I tried deleting the horizontal frames, then reentering them, but to no avail.
I use frames like this in my scores often.
Suggestions?

I think the biggest problem we all have is that MU4 is not MU3. Odd, I know. They are different programs. Is one better than the other? It just depends. MU4 has always been "stable". But it doesn't do everything that MU3 does. And it doesn't do things the same. There are things that MU4 does that MU3 can't.
If you open page settings and change Staff spacing to .059, you'll get the same number of measures on the first page.
I don't know if I would have set this score up the way you did to begin with. But that's just me.
You have learned how to do what you want things to look inMU3. That's great. MU4 may or may not be able to reproduce just what you want. I suspect it can. But maybe not by making some changes. It might mean a redo. Not what you want to hear. Perhaps experiment in MU4 from scratch to see if what you want is possible. Things are in different places and react differently. You might have to spend some time in the (argh) manual.

I fear my actual problem--is it possible, in MU4, to create a horizontal frame which appears before the instrument names, and which can serve as custom system indentation?--got buried under my stylistic noise.

One method would be to use frame to move the systems over. Then select one of the instrument names and go to "Properties">Style Settings>and nudge then over with the "X" Offset.

Thank you very much! The solution wasn't as straightforward as that. You can't select the instrument name while the frame is superimposed on it. But I could create the frame, then drag it out of the way, select the instrument name, move it right, then move the frame back. Works like a charm:
