Invalid score
I would like to know if one of my scores can be recovered. When working on the score on my desktop musescore app I was initially unable to save it to my musecore.com account to be able to access it on another device and after multiple attempts closed the score, reopened the app and I am now unable to open the score at all (even when saved in the app on my desktop) as when I click on it I get a notification reading "your score is invalid". I am unsure what is meant by this and would like to know if it would be possible to recover the score so that I can at least view it again.

Open the file using a reader such as TextEdit on Mac. If it isn’t just zeros, there may be hope of recovering it. In any case, go to your score manager on the website and look for it there. If you find it, download it.

I don't have a Mac, is TextEdit available on a Windows PC? I couldn't save it to my score manager it just came up with an error code so it's definitely not there.

You should be able to find some sort of file viewer.

The score is only saved to my desktop app and not as a file in my documents so I couldn't open it in the file viewer

Download it from MuseScore.com’s list of your scores. (click on the thing in the top right that shows your pfp then go to scores)

I couldn't save it to my musescore account so it's not there. It is only saved in the desktop app in which the score can't be opened

I'm not sure how that happened as all my other scores saved to my desktop account have never done this before. Looks like I'll have to try to recreate what i did from memory. Thanks for your help though :)

I hope it wasn’t an original composition, that would have been very unfortunate. Maybe in the future save it sooner to at least have a backup.

It was actually haha. Although I do have some notes on paper from when I was debating what harmony to use so at least I can use that to help jog my memory and reconstruct it in a new score. I definitely will try that this time and make sure I can actually save the score to my account before I start.

If the message "the score is invalid" appears, this can have various causes. Can it be recovered or not? We can only say when we have it and can examine it.
Attach it here and someone will look at it and repair it if possible.

I can't attach it because it is only saved in my desktop app and that is the file I am unable to open. It isn't saved as a file in my documents because I could only save it in-app.

There's no such thing as 'saved in my desktop app', you'd either save on your local disk or in the coud

Go to musescore.com. Go to your profile. Do you see it there? If not, I don’t think it saved anywhere. Your last option would be an autosave file. Assuming you didn’t name your score yet, this will be hard to find.

Yes, but what does it mean when I try to open that link and it says the score is "invalid"?

That this file is broken in some way
In reply to There is no file in my… by Ruby Hargreaves
If you see this preview image - it is ultimately a link to the file - then it must have been saved somewhere. MuseScore says "File invalid" and not "File not found". So it is there, but corrupted.
Scores are usually saved in the folder "...\Documents\MuseScore4\Scores", but of course you can save a file on all possible drives and folders. Use the search function of your file manager and search for the name.
Or you have saved it in the cloud. Then click on your name at the top right and look under "My scores".

It's definitely not saved in the cloud and it's not there when I search its title in my file manager
