Strange display of bends in TAB notation (MuseScore4)

• May 28, 2024 - 06:01

I am using MuseScore 4.3.0.
When I apply a bend to a quarter note in TAB notation, the note value doubles on its own and the second beat is grayed out (bar 1 in the attached photo).
If you want to express a bend in one beat, you must apply the bend to a note created in advance as an eighth note (the second measure in the attached photo).
On the display, two eighth notes are shown, which is very confusing.
(In MuseScore3, the bends were displayed as one quarter note, one beat.)

I am not sure what version is being used, but in the video below, the bends are represented in a one-beat display.

If anyone knows how to make the display like this, please let me know.

The video is using version 3. The appearance and behavior of the bend graph matches 3 and not 4.

What you are seeing is how bends work in version 4. I suggest you create a blank guitar score and simply play with bends a little. Figure out what works and what doesn't for what you need.

One thing to know: bends currently only play back when using the MuseHub guitar sounds. The MS Basic sounds simply don't have a bend. :-(

The explanation is not version 3 vs. version 4.

The reason is that the behavior of bends underwent a major change (a all-new system for inputting bends and customising their playback) when we moved to version 4.2.0.

@kikuchik311:
And so: the video was taken with either version 4.0 or 4.1
(which explains: "Look at the top of the video at 0:00, it says musescore4. This should not be musescore3.")

I still quote: "On the display, two eighth notes are shown, which is very confusing."

Well, if you're uncomfortable with this on-screen display (these grayed-out frets aren't printed anyway), you can make them completely invisible via menu “View” / “Show” / uncheck “Show invisible”.
And you get:
