How to add another note to a measure to increase its length from one to two quarter notes?

• Jan 30, 2025 - 04:21

I am trying to create a score in 3/4 time. I have successfully created a first measure with one quarter note as a pickup measure. Now I have the end measure which currently has one quarter to which I want to add another quarter note, giving three in total from the first and last measures.

I am then going to copy my 15 measures several times.

I looked in the handbook but it said to hit control and shift after entering insert mode and selecting N, but that is not doing anything. I am using Windows 11 and MuseScore4. Thank you for any assistance.

Best,
Robert

You don't need Insert mode for this. First, just return to the default input mode. Next, right-click on the measure filled by E note (the highlighted note in your image). You're now in Measure Properties, and simply change the Actual Duration to 2/4 instead of 1/4. Finally, add the desired note.
