Lyric issues

Hi, I have a score that I have finally gotten entered to match the sheet music that I had (does the import from PDF feature ever work?).

As I entered, I put in the first stanza of lyrics. All good, I thought.

Well, as I try to enter the second stanza of lyrics, MuseScore tries to adjust the music notes to fit!! Immediately. I mean, as I entered, I was going to adjust the second STANZA to fit the music. I really did not expect this.

Is there any way to "freeze" the score once it's entered so it will not mess up as I enter the lyrics?

I really don't want to go back to doing things by hand!!

Thanks,
David

As far as I know, you cannot. However, even if you can you don't want to: "freezing" the score would mess up the lyrics. You want the music to adjust so that all the lyrics have room. to be read.

Short answer is you want to enter everything--all content--in the score before being concerned about layout. And, perhaps, best answer is don't do anything by hand.

You perhaps do not understand. It's not moving notes over to make things more readable -- it is actually changing my lines -- I have four measures per line -- It is literally changing the score!!

There is plenty of room for the words. Take for example Screenshot 2024-06-08 154700.png . As soon as I add one more word after "the", it moves the last measure off the line and shifts the entire score over, adding an entire line at the end. It should leave things alone!

I need that to stop.

No, I don't want to do anything by hand -- and when I say that it means I am going to have to HAND WRITE THEM on a piece of paper!!

I thought this program would eliminate all that.

It may be better to type the whole song in first.

You can adjust measures per line by pressing the enter key. This causes a line break. It puts a symbol to the upper right of the measure. Delete the symbol to get rid of it.

Inside a measure, you can use { and } to make the measure wider or more narrow.

If you need more adjustments, ask and someone who knows more can probably help.

Again, enter everything first. Only then worry about layout. Once you have everything entered, look at the Layout pallette and use its tools to adjust everything so that it's arranged as you like and is readable.
I disagree with using the Stretch tool. IMO, it's better to use the ... actually, I'm not sure what the button is formally labeled. The "Keep These Measures on the Same System" button. (Maybe "Group Measures"?)
