Pickup notes

• Jul 8, 2024 - 15:49

I have been trying to covert a measure to contain a single pickup note. The time signature is 2/4 and I want a single eighth note. I have looked at the instructions for doing this, but have been unable to get what I want. Perhaps my ignorance is showing. I can get to the "Measure Duration" section, but don't know what numbers to enter. None of the numbers that I have tried work.

Okay, so for a single eighth note...
In 'Actual' enter 1 in the first box, then select 8 in the second (dropdown) box:

It signifies an eighth (or, half of a quarter) note. Just as 4/4 means four beats to a measure, and a quarter note gets the beat, 1/8 means one beat to the measure, and an eighth note gets the beat.

In Jm6stringer’s example, the 2/4 means two beats per measure, with a quarter note getting the beat.
