This solved it. See the attached picture.
In the Tremolo palette there is a Buzz Roll symbol that is the proper notation. But it sounds pretty bad. I would use the 32d Through the Stem (even though there may be no stem) instead.

The buzz roll is just one of the three main types of a roll and normally never used on timpani.

Yes, I was thinking mainly of snare drum. However, buzz roll sounds so bad. I write for playback, so I never use buzz roll.

Here on my computer with Q4OS and MuseScore Studio version 4.3.2 the buzz roll sign does not make any sound at all.
