harp gliss going incorrect

• Sep 3, 2024 - 21:03

My harp glisses are playing completely wrong notes and I have no idea what is causing the problem. Can anyone help? Some of the notes are playing twice which is even more strange to me.

Thank you

(in the image it is meant to play a descending C lydian)

I assume this is a pedal harp.

The gliss will play the notes according to the pedal settings including repeating pitches when strings are set to enharmonic equivalents. I see no pedal settings in your picture (nor can I hear anything!) and therefore can't comment on whether the gliss sounds correct.

I also assume you are familiar with how Musescore handles harp notation as described here https://musescore.org/en/handbook/4/idiomatic-notation-harp

For more specific help please attach the score (.mscz file).

You have a key signature change between the start and end of the down gliss. Having experimented with that I find that if I try to reproduce your score the up gliss. is indeed diatonic but the down gliss. that includes the change to three sharps (but made invisible) gives an odd result.

But it is not clear to me what such a change midway through a diatonic gliss. should do. Which scale is the player expected to follow? When do the F# and G# kick in? Why is that 3 sharp key signature there?
