MuseSounds suddenly disappeared
Hey there!
I was working on some of my pieces and I suddenly noticed that the playback was way different from the day before. I therefore opened the mixer and noticed that the sounds for woodwinds and percussion had defaulted to MSBasic. I thought this was a simple fix, but I could not have been further from the truth...
MuseScore does not recognise the MuseSounds for woodwinds and percussion anymore, while the other packs are still included and used in playback.
MuseHub says that all packs should be available and I do not know what caused these packs to suddenly shift back to MSBasic, since I have not altered the settings of the program in any way over the last few days. Yesterday it was all working fine, and today it doesn't seem to work whatever I tried. The following things I have already done to resolve the problem:
-
Close and open the program with the windows task-manager.
-
Do a factoryreset of the MuseScore application in hopes to reboot the packs.
-
Check the diagnostics in the app, which does recognise that the Muse Sampler-library has been found.
Can anyone please give me some advice on what to do, cause I need the audio playback for a project with a looming deadline...

You mean that you can't change those sounds back to Muse in the mixer?
Are the staff names something MU4 doesn't recognize? Can you change one of the woodwinds to a brass sound?

Well, this is what I see. I am unable to change the woodwinds or percussion back to the MuseSounds. I can put something else on them. The staff names are the default names of the Dutch system on MU4, since I'm from the Netherlands.
It seems like the system does not recognise that those packs are installed, eventhough MuseHub says they are...

I recommend remove those sounds and re-installing them (Alt+click form within Muse Hub to remove).

It does not let me delete the sounds... When I press Alt, the icon appears and I click it while still holding Alt, but the sounds do not get uninstalled. All the other packs do though.

Best to ask for help on the official Muse Hub support site, then - musehub.zendesk.com
This happened to me today...all the sounds defaulted to MuseBasic between sessions, though I get a 'loading sounds' bar when I open a score. And all the menu items relating to Hub and Sounds have disappeared.
I'm wary of reinstalling or uninstalling/reinstalling as some people report the whole programme fails if they do that.

First, I'm not sure where you saw anyone reporting that MuseScore or Msue Hub or Muse Sounds has any problems if you reinstall it, but that's definitely not the case. it's seldom particularly useful, but it should never cause problems. And in this particular case, uninstalling and reinstalling the sounds (not MuseScore, not Msue Hub - just the sounds themselves) is the answer. Probably there was an automatic update since the last time you used it and something went wrong to interrupt the update - like your internet connection failing. The uninstall/reinstall of the sounds is the solution. Be sure to close and restart MuseScore as well, but reinstalling it shouldn't be necessary.

After some repetitions it just started to work. I deleted the old strings and downloaded it anew. And now it all works :)
Something similar happened to me
But I can re-install the sound from muse-hub
Any reasons why the sudden lost of files?
Hello! I know it's pretty late, but for anyone experiencing this issue I think I may have a fix. I had a similar issue, Musehub said i had all the musesounds downloaded, but when I opened a score that previously had musesounds for vibraphone, marimba, and crotales, suddenly musesounds wasn't even a category in the sound selection.
Open the musehub program
Go to settings
Look for the category "Installation" and look at the "Muse Sounds installation folder"
EXAMPLE: C:\ProgramData\MuseHub\Downloads (Yours may be different)
- Click Preferences
In the folders look for "VST3"
At this point you have two options:
Option 1: Type the file path in manually
Option 2: Click the folder icon and navigate to the folder that the musesounds are stored in manually.
Hope this helps!

Just updated to 4.4.1.242490810, same thing happened.
Closed Musescore
Went to muse hub opened the Muse sounds tab - all still installed,
Reopened Musescore and the option for muse sounds came back...
However I've now got to change every single instrument back from MS Basic...
Anyway of returning all the instruments to Muse sounds automatically?

answer sort of:
Go to view → Playback setup.
Select MuseScore Basic in the Profiles section (because Muse Sounds was already selected)
Select Muse Sounds again
Leave Set as default for new scores checked if you want all future scores to also use Muse Sounds.
Click OK.
This reverted almost everything back, with the notable exception of percussion.
Hi,
I'm experiencing the same problem - Muse Sounds has disappeared and all my scores have reverted to MS Basic. I've already tried all suggested solutions on this thread including uninstalling and reinstalling but nothing has worked. Here is the info about my program if that helps at all:
OS: Windows 10 Version 2009 or later, Arch.: x86_64, MuseScore Studio version (64-bit): 4.4.2-242570931, revision: 3130f97

To be clear, you uninstallled and reinstalled Muse Sounds? Reinstalling MuseScore Studio itself would be expect to fix anything. But assuming you have indeed reinstalled the sounds and the problem remains, what does Diagnostic / Muse Sampler / Check Muse Sampler (from MuseScore Studio) report?

Correct, I uninstalled and reinstalled Muse Sounds. Diagnostic says "Muse Sampler library is not found" even after trying greenhawks45's solution.

And you also closed all MuseScore Studio windows and then retsstted after reinstalling the sounds? And you are definitely doing all this from the same user account on your computer? If so, it appears something is wrong with your installation, but isn't clear what. Probably best to contact the Muse Hub support team, using the button in their app.

My Muse Strings disappeared after the latest update of MuseScore. All other MuseSounds where not affected. Had to download Muse Strings again.
