D.C. Al Fine Problems

• Sep 8, 2023 - 17:21

Hope someone can help. I added a score with D.C. Al Fine to go back to the start and end at Fine. The problem is when it goes back to ther start it skips the measure with the Fine and plays right to the end. I'm wondering if this is a glitch because measure 8 with the Fine is a Prima Volta and somehow it decides to go to the second volta because it's playing it again, even though this would actaully be the third time it's played measures 1-7. Has anyone had this problem as well? did I do someithng wrong? or is there possibly a workaround?

Thanks,

Click on the DC al Fine and in the properties panel uncheck "Play repeats". It is conventional that after a DC, no repeats are played and therefore 1st voltas are skipped and that is Musescore's default. If you want it to do something different you need to tell it.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem. I carefully read both the question and the answer. I made sure that I applied the answer religiously, i.e., in the properties pane of the "DC al Fine", setting the "Play repeats" option to be unchecked. But still, when it plays the measures 1 through 5 for the last time (i.e. the 3rd time) as a result of DC al Fine, it does not go to the 3rd volta as I expected (nor even the 1st one, for that matter), but goes to the 2nd volta again and then continues on, playing measures 9 through 13 (for the third time), and finally finishes the song on the second volta of the second phrase, i.e. measure 15, which is supposed to be played only if there is a need to go back to the beginning of the score.

I tried different bar lines between the 2nd and the 3rd volta (i.e. measures 7 and 8), to no avail. I also have tried putting Fine above the volta 1 instead of volta 3, but no luck there either.

Would you kindly help please?

Thank you.

The mix of Volta and "D.C. al fine" doesn't work like this.
If I have understood you correctly, then you have to

  • remove the 3rd repetition.
  • Instead, introduce a coda leap and therefore replace the "D.C. al fine" with a "D.C. al Coda".
  • The coda comes at the very end and is filled with the notes of the current measure 8, so move measure 8 to the very end
  • There must then be a "To Coda" in measure 5.

(Done with 3.7)
