Moving notes and lyrics horizontally

• Mar 13, 2025 - 19:21

I often have a situation as shown in the screenshot. The lyrics "will the" are too close together. In Finale, there was a setting which would allow me to move the entire stack of notes with the lyric "will" a bit to the left. Is there a similar function in MS4.4? Or must I move them individually?

And on a related note, it seems that MS3 could do this easily. But not in 4? A planned update?

And how can I get the screenshot to show in the body of my post?

I had that checked, but thanks. I dragged the screenshot in, rather than the Choose a File. Could that have made the difference?

I want to keep the lyrics (pretty much) aligned with their notes. This was a pretty simple example, and shifting the lyric would probably work. But sometimes, I need more control.

Thanks, again.

To spread out your example, I would select the measure. Then Properties>Appearance>Leading space and hit the up arrow a time or two. That keeps the notes and lyrics together.

Or select one element at a time and in Properties, turn off Auto-place and in Appearance, use Off-set to each thing (rest, note, lyrics). That is way to much work, but something good to know how to use.

Or select and hold the last note in the measure and move the mouse slightly to the right.
