No sound on MacBook
My application isn’t outputting any sound, when I enter the notes, neither when I start playback. Please see if there is anything I can do.

As mentioned, try https://musescore.org/en/node/234811#comment-755491

@ Jamie Buttigieg, try to use the earphones and adjust the volume. It may be a problem of the Mac (Google search)

When I tried it with the earphones, it worked. I don't think it is a problem with the MacBook though because it has sound on other applications and it is brand new. Thanks

Any useful information if you run MuseScore from command line?:
https://musescore.org/en/handbook-appendix/command-line-options
Maybe try out the "-a" option (with your sound driver).
Does the sound output of other sound applications work as expected?

I tried but I don't know how to do it and I think that I've done it wrong because it didn't even launch it.
Not the best option, but could you check if the sound output with the previous version of MuseScore works for you?

I found it to be worse because it didn't have anything in the drop down menu and the playback area was not available.

Yes I know but it didn't help me.
The issue should be fixed in cae320e (master) and 596f6c2 (2.2). See #234811: No sound on Mac and Windows, I/O's PortAudio API drop down menu empty for details.
