Shrink-to-Fit option
Apparently there is no MS option to shrink-to-fit a score to page size on the printer. I now have new computer wtih windows 10 and a new Canon printer. The old Cannon had a shrink-to-fit button to press, the new one does not. I did try PDF, and though I also found no shrink-to fit option on pdf , it automatically did shrink correctly, BUT there are faint horizontal lines through some of the staves! I thought PDF was the preferred way to rpint MS files! Perplexed!
Awhile ago i printed the file in question directly from my MS file, using the shrink to fit button on old printer. It printed perfectly1 So if PDF is going to be messed up, I need some way to shrink the original MS files to 8 1/2 by 11 size when I need to. (I HAD to get a new printer, the old one finally cratered.) Anyone? Thanks

If your new printer is lacking such an option, but the old one had it, I guess your only option is to complain to the vendor to put out a better printer driver?
Printing PDFs via Acrobat Reader always has a scale to fit option, so there you should have a viable workaround
In each printer (in the Properties dialog box) there should be the function: 'Fit to paper size'.

@Jojo, no chance creating and selecting custom paper sizes in Windows?

Yes, that is possible, but not what delhud2 needs I think?
Like having setup the score for A3 or Custom size but want (and need) to print on 8 1/2" by 11" (Letter)

Yes, I'm talking about larger sized symphonic/operatic scores . I have found that though quite miniaturized on 81/2 by 11 paper they are clear and quite readable. But the one done from PDF has the lines running through some of the staves. So weird.
Del, Are you printing to PDF or exporting to PDF. These use different methods to turn the score into PDF.

I exported it to PDF from " File" of the MS score. Then saved it as a PDF file. Also, I can't be sending out PDF files all over that don't print right in case someone wantd to print .(An opera person)

Export, that's what I have been doing, under "File". The new Canon printer prints perfectly. But when I printed the PDF file of the MS score, it had faint horizontal lines running through many of the staves ! (So that would be the printer driver's fault, I guess? I also wonder if Windows 10 can fix this--i don't know much about windows 10, though I really like it so far. Much better than Vista.

I don't know how you would "print to PDF"? I've just been using the Export under "File" and it just goes to where you can save it as a PDF file. (Then print that.)

There is software available that behaves like a printer, i.e. shows up in printing dialogs, but creates PDF files instead of printing. But exporting PDF directly from MuseScore rather than via such a PDF printer is to be preferred, those PDF printers come with their one set of problems, so better avoided them for all programs that can export to PDF themselves.

i do have 90 days free tech support from a computer expert at the place I got the new Dell computer. maybe I will see if he can help, if my days haven't expired yet. I also thought it was weird that on the PDF thing there was no place for fit to page under settings or preferences, or anything.

Just download and install Adobe's Acrobat Reader.

The PDF file did shrink automatically to typing size, but had the lines problem. OK after I download and install Adobe Reader How do I get the MS files onto that? I do still have quite a bit of stuff to download and install on this new computer. i will have to do that tomorrow.

You will open the exported PDF file with Adobe Reader.
When you give print command from Adobe reader, the software will give you various options.
Page size, options to fit on the page, and so on.

I have been searching the Cannon manual for my series,( MG 3200) and it seems there is a Start Up menu somewhere where it does have fit to page and everything. Can't find it Cannon is the most miserable company on directions! So I am going in to see the computer expert who set up my new computer with the new printing this morning. As for Adobe Reader goes, in another thread some time ago Mark advised that PDF would be the standard universal way to submit scores around with sound track as separate file. So would using Adobe reader mean that I would be submitting scores that were a different type of file, NON PDF? We did talk about submitting MS scores directly, but then peoaple would have to download MS first for the playback, I understand.

How about considering just making the score fit on the desired page size from within MuseScore directly?
On some of my scores I have the same master score as a part for printing as well, having a different scale sp setting,
It allows me for example to show a clear and readable approx 4bars/line for the online musescore.com version, while simultaneously going with 8bars/line for a still readable follow along score on printed paper.
Yes, it means duplicating a lot of the layout work, but it also makes for perfectly predictable printed versions.
