Music Notation: One or Two Lines Above a Note
I was working on transcribing an older musical work and came across notation showing sometimes one line and other times two lines above a note. Can someone inform me the meaning of this notation? I have attached an image of it.
Thanks,
Anthony

What instrument is that for? Is it on every note or just a few isolated notes? How old is the music?
It looks like a “portato” or “appoggiato” but I do not know the 'doubling'. Give some more information and somebody can help.

Thanks for your help. After digging about a bit, I discovered that it is indeed markings for various types of graces.
