I don't know if I am able to edit the *.xml file and convert it to *.mss

The instructions are not for MSS "style" files; they are for XML "chord description files. That is, the resulting file doesn't get loaded via Style / Load Style; it gets specified via Style / General / Chord Symbols / Appearance / Custom.
