cannot install soundfonts
I downloaded Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra and unzipped it, like the instructions said. However, when I double click on the files to open them, musescore displays this message:
Cannot read file C:/Users/camer/Downloads/sonatina-symphonic-orchestra-1.0/Sonatina Symphonic Orchestra/Chorus - Female.sfz:
unknown type
I am fairly new to musescore and very new to soundfonts. Thanks!

MuseScore doesn't support loading an sfz by double-clicking it (yet?).
You have to open MuseScore go into the synthesizer (Zerberus tab) and load it from there.

Also an SZF soundfont is multiple files, not just one like sf2 and sf3

Thanks! Now I have them all loaded and i replaced the default sounds in the mixer with the soundfont ones, but they don't make any noise when i place notes or try to listen to the piece. the volume is up on all the mixer tracks...(i am on windows 10 if that helps).

Be sure you install all the files - the audio files are as important as the SFZ files themselves.

? You mean the SFZ shows up in Zerberus one minute, and then, without changing anything else, you also add the audio files to that same folder, and now you go back to Zerberus and the SFZ file no longer appears? That doesn't seem possible. Can you explain in more detail?

I reset my preferences to default and it worked.
