High CPU usage with average sized score.
I just got a new computer and I seem to be having a difficult time using musescore. I love the program and it works fine on everything but my laptop. there's at least a half second delay from just adjusting notes and placing them and at least a 2 second delay when just bringing four quarter notes down an octave. Playback is fine, it's just the placement. My cpu generally runs at ~30% on the program and not placement sometimes makes it hit 100. I constantly get the program to stop responding from simple tasks like the one mentioned above with the quarter notes. I also checked the forums and my navigator isn't even running. Not sure what to do, I really need this program to work.
Specs:
Windows 10
8gb ram
Pentium processor with 2.5 speed
1tb storage
asus x541n laptop

It is possible the score contains some sort of corruption that is triggering this. In order to investigate we would need to to attach the score.

Its not even specifically the score, the whole programs runs generally slow, it's just noticeably slower on that particular score.

So, even if you go to File / New and start a brand new score, it takes more than a fraction of a second to add the very first notes? Are you perhaps using an especially large soundfont? Switching back to the default would fix that. Otherwise, it seems possible there is some sort of conflict with another program or driver so more information would be useful. A screenshot of your CPU monitor might be useful.

Yes, just a completely new score runs slow, Ill work on getting a screenshot up soon.
Which MuseScore version?

Maybe the CPU in your new laptop would be a bottleneck for MuseScore (a Intel Pentium N4200, running at 1.10 GHz but overclocked up to 2.5 GHz). The specs of this CPU, comparing to other microprocessors, seems poor (https://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Pentium+N4200+%40+1.10GHz). If you have at hand the hardware specs (CPU type, etc.) of your other/older systems, it would good to know them.
If the sluggishness appears even in a minimal test score, I think this would be a factor.

There seem to be different versions of that model with different processors, so no guarantee this is the one. But FWIW, I have successfully run MuseScore with no noticeable lag (beyond the usual on very large scores) on what I take to be less powerful processors, including the N2840 in my Toshiba Chromebook 2 (running Linux).

Thanks for the info, Marc. Well, then.....I don't know :-| . Maybe a an unoptimized BIOS setting? a power management plan in Windows that disabled the full 2.5 GHz speed?

I brought my performance vs. power consumption to max performance for the pc and that seems to help a blank new score, but the old larger score runs even slower than it used to. I don't know at this point, i've been wanting to convert it to a conductors score anyways, and i'll just work on the full arrangement on a stronger computer. still unhappy, but i can manage.
Side note, the cpu on the larger score runs at a constant ~65%, with it responding with any adjustment now. Ill bring my computer in somewhere to see if they can help me.

If you have parts extracted it slows down MuseScore considerably. So a smaller score with parts will be slower than a larger score without parts. Perhaps this is an explanation of what you are seeing.

just to check another thing. When it gets slow, does the fan noise becomes noticeable?
In reply to just to check another thing… by mdi1972
The fan increases but it not an insane amount. I do have parts on my score, so that can certainly be it. I will check
