Trying to create a bells used chart (single measure, small font)

• Jan 14, 2018 - 22:37

I'm using version 2.1.0, revision 871c8ce.

I am trying to create a bells used chart at the beginning of my score. Attached is a file that shows what I've been doing and also a screenshot of what I want to be able to do.

I can "cheat" by using a section break, changing the number of beats per measure (duration), making the key/time invisible, making the notes stemless, and excluding it from the measure count. However, I can't change the size and center it.

I know how to change the size of the whole score (Layout->Page Settings->Staff space), but I only want the first measure to be smaller.

I thought I could have a second instrument (another "piano") that has smaller staves whose only visible measure is the first measure while the other instrument (the original "piano") has all visible measures except of the first measure. Unfortunately, that doesn't work.

The only other thing I can think of that might work is if I am able to make two separate scores. One for the bells used chart and another for the actual score. Then I can change the size of each one separately (although I'm not sure how I would center it).

Is it possible to have two "scores" in one document? Or are there any other tricks I can use to get what I want?

Since I do not speak English I'm not sure what you want to get.
If you download the score that I have attached
(bellsused_testBis) and you will open Style/General -> Score, you will see I have put the check on 'Hide empty staves'.
I hope that making attempts with the score settings is clearer than my words ;-)
Buona musica!

It's funny, someone posted a guide a couple days ago in a handbell Facebook group for how to do this. I'll put it here for future reference.

I think Finale has some kind of auto-detect feature that automatically knows what bells are played in the piece. It would be really nice to see this as an added feature in future versions of Musescore. These charts are par for the course in handbell music, and as you can see from the guide it's a pain in the butt to manually figure out which bells are played and which ones aren't.

Haha! That was me. :) I was going to post it in the "how to" section here, but they require you to upload separate pngs and retype everything... I have other things to work on at the moment. Thanks for posting it here; I should have thought of that. :|

Apparently there used to be a plugin that did all this automatically (detect notes, make chart), but it doesn't work on version 2. I contacted the guy who wrote it, and he said making a compatible version is on his list of things to do. It will take a while...
