See #270996: No sound on upgrade to 2.2 if default soundfont was saved as default and the workaround: Help/Revert to Factory Settings, or go to View/Synthesizer and add MuseScore_General.sf3 then hit Set as Default.
I am having the same problem. I tried the two work-arounds just provided. Resetting to factory defaults did not resolve the issue. When I click on View, "Synthesizer" is also grayed out.
Please use the Support forum https://musescore.org/en/forum/6 to ask for help using MuseScore, not the issue tracker.
Which version of MuseScore are you running? On which Operating System (Windows? Mac?)
Go into View>Synthesizer>Fluid (All the way to the left)>Click Add> Click "MuseScore_General.sf3">Then Add>Save
Downloaded 2.2 - ran it - killed my sound which I had from 2.1! Chord symbols disappeared from score! restored computer to April 11 and got my 2.1 version working again except for chord symbols!
What a bunch of crap!
Nothing to with Chord symbols though, that got to be something else (and nothing 2.2.1 specific, as you have the issue with 2.1 too), please open a forum topic in https://musescore.org/en/forum/6 about that and share the score there, so we can have a look and investigate what goes wrong with it

To you too, see #270996: No sound on upgrade to 2.2 if default soundfont was saved as default esp. the Workaround: Open Synthesizer and add the default soundfont again or revert to factory settings, loosing all palettes, shortcuts etc... (or manually delete synthesizer.xml)
