SoundFont isn't Working

• Apr 16, 2018 - 22:32

I downloaded S. Christian Collins SoundFont as an sf2, put it in the Synthesizer, put the instruments in the Zerberus, clicked Save to Score and Set as Default, and it won't work. I've tried a number of things to get it to work. I've asked Elliot Butler who uses the SoundFont about it. He even made an explanation video for me about how to use the SoundFont. I followed his instructions, and it still won't work. I'm extremely confused. I need help.

Is there a reason you downloaded this as sf2 rather than simply using it the default version that comes pre-installed? Assuming you have MuseScore 2.2.1, you shouldn't have needed to do *anything& to get the new soundfont - it should have just worked right out of the box. Even if you had previously customized your synthesizer settings to use some other soundfont, MuseScore_General .sf3 would be available for you to add by simply pressing "Add" - no download necessary. And in any case, Zerberus shouldn't be involved at all - that is for SFZ files only, not SF2 or SF3.

So please give us more information. What version of MuseScore are you using, what happens if you remove the file you downloaded then do Help / Revert to Factory Settings?

To be clear, S. Christian Collins is a person, not a soundfont :-). He did indeed develop the new MuseScore_General soundfont, but it now occurs to me maybe you are referring to his older GeneralUser_GS soundfont? In any case, both are GM and compatible with MuseScore using default settings in the Mixer.
