Copying Dynamics En Masse

• Jun 23, 2018 - 17:19

I've a long line of homophonic music in different voices on different staves. I've written in dynamics for the soprano part. The dynamics for alto, tenor and bass are exactly the same. I can't find it in the manual, but is there a way of copying dynamics (including harpins [crescendi/diminuendi]) and pasting them 'en masse' into the lower parts? If not, then I have to repeat all the actions for each voice.

Thanks in advance!

Kind of. A bit late now, but it's actually easier to add the dynamics to all parts at once after entering the parts, rather than entering them onto one part only then copy them. But, select the contents of the source staff, copy to clipboard, select the destination staff, swap it with the clipboard (Ctrl+Shift+X) twice. First swap replace the contents with the source staff, including dynamics, second replaces the notes with what was there originally but leaves the dynamics.

Good point. Although, if you also only added slurs to the top staff, this could be a clever way to copy them too! Definitely something to watch though. It's arguably a bug that the copy/swap doesn't clear old dynamics or slurs, but it works in our favor in this case.

The bug that we're taking advantage of is that dynamics and slurs are persistent when you paste on top of them. It makes it messy at times. If there were a way to chose if we could replace or keep dynamics, in a similar fashion to the filter selector for copying, it would be very nice. I don't like having to clear a measure before pasting if there are slurs or dynamics, including (de)crescendos, in them. A big problem is that (de)crescendos that end the measure do not get deleted unless they are specifically selected or the next measure is selected.
