Apparent bug for harp pedal diagram in musescore.com

• Jul 6, 2018 - 22:52

Not sure if this is the place to report problems on musescore.com, but my score at https://musescore.com/user/2488/scores/5156219 which includes a harp pedal diagram just prints that diagram as a string of letters.

My guess is that you used the https://musescore.org/en/project/harp-pedal-diagram-musescore-20 or https://musescore.org/en/project/harp-pedals-diagram plugin, which requires a special font. This font in not included on MuseScore.com so it will not display correctly. There are 2 other harp pedal plugins that do not require a special font. If display on MuseScore.com is critical you will need to use one of those.

The issue is that plugins are user added features and are not really even moderated on the MuseScore.org web page. You can create any plugin you want and post it there and it will not be deleted unless it is considered dangerous to users. MuseScore.com only displays internal MuseScore fonts and fonts found on Google. The font used in the plugin is in neither category. I would be surprised to find a harp pedal font on Google. Perhaps someone more familiar with the Google fonts could confirm whether there is one or could be added to Google.

There is a strong user expectation that a score posted on musescore.com will look the same as it does in Musescore.
Unfortunately, it's not possible to meet this expectation. MuseScore.com cannot have all the fonts in the world and including fonts in MuseScore files might be a copyright issue. So MuseScore.com can only support the fonts embedded in MuseScore which are used by the plugin https://musescore.org/en/project/harp-pedal-diagram-0 which doesn't require any font installation (I wrote it for this exact reason :)) or freely available fonts from Google Fonts Project.
