Converting files

• Dec 28, 2018 - 16:45

I made files years back with a Cubase VST, computer sequencer and MIDI instrument that are saved in my PC called 'ALL' files and 'ARR' files. MuseScore 2.3.2 cannot read them. Is there a method to convert these to something readable? (My PC calls them ALL and ARR but they had a different name originally.)

If the it doesn't export xml, then perhaps it exports midi, which is less reliable, but considering you going from a VST it should make for a decent starting point for importing a song. You'll have to decide if it's easier to import or reenter the files.

how? I can't open them.

I don't know what to make of it. They are all .all or .arr files which seems to be only able to open with Cubase? (The web's been no help, of course, I'm not sure what to search.) These were made with a MIDI keyboard (if that's any help) with Windows 95. MIDI file sounds familiar.

On my 2.3.2 all it has for import is PDF. (I know how to export, not import.)

I would like to avoid re-entering each page on MuseScore. It is for orchestra and is 1 1/2 hrs long ('twas my thesis.) Even though I'd do some editing, I'd rather have a head start.

BTW - they are on a thumb. Should I attach one?

If you ever have a file with .mid, .midi or .xml, all you have to do is open them like you do MuseScore files. If they are .mid or .midi files you really need to follow the instruction in https://musescore.org/en/handbook/midi-import.

I don't know which version of Cubase you have, but I did a search and found results for several different versions. I saw 10 is probably the most recent and I found results, though I don't know how useful, for version 1.

Okay...thanks. I'll look around the Cubase site and do a search. Don't want to waste too much time. Much of these files have little value. Besides, the best way to edit a score is to re-enter on MuseScore if need be.
