In MuseScore 2.3, I was prompted that there was a new version, which is apparently 3.0-dev.
However, 3.0 dev doesn't seem stable enough to use and seems to be marked as a development version rather than a final version.
MuseScore should not prompt that a new version is available if the new version is an unstable development version rather than a stable release version.

MuseScore 3.0 has been officially released. I'm not sure where you were directed to download, but version 3.0 is available at https://musescore.org/en/download. It still needs some work, but the more people using it and finding bugs the better for the future.
No version of MuseScore would prompt you to update to a development version.

Perhaps it's time to update the issue tracker since 3.0 is no longer under development.
Yes, it is. And add a new one, for the master branch

Sounds like it was just the name of the release in the bug tracker that referred to it as a development version. But it doesn't seem stable enough for me to use. I immediately ran into quite a few problems, and they didn't seem to have workarounds. It isn't useful to me in its current state, so I've gone back to 2.3. Please see the other issues I've submitted for details.

Thank you for the bugs you did report, they will no doubt help make 3.x a better program in the future. If you stumble across any other bugs, make sure you mention them in the forums so we can make sure they aren't in 3.x also.
