I want to modulate the feel of a rhythm, how do I do that?

I want to change the way that a certain rhythm is felt in this Jazz chart I'm working on. What I want is in the picture but I also want the playback to sound that way. How do I do this?

This helped with the visual aspect of it but there is no way to write a dotted eight sixteenth rhythm and make that feel like a triplet quarter note eight that I know of currently. Is there a way to do that because in the swing settings there isn't. Maybe even a plugin?

The idea of swing is that two consecutive 8th (or sometimes 16th) notes are played like a triplet that consists of a whole note followed by an 8th note, which is very close a dotted 8th note followed by a 16th. You can exaggerate the swing a little and make it sound like a dotted 8th followed by a 16th, and it would be accurate in this case to say 2 8th = a dotted 8th followed by a 16th. It's a mistake to indicate swing means to play a dotted 8th followed by a 16th as a 1/4+8th triplet. There are many mistakes in life that are propagated through ignorance, and this is one.

It is neither a mistake, nor ignorant to have swing notated using dotted 8ths and 16ths. I have seen many charts where this is used, and it is quite acceptable. I won't second-guess the fine composers and arrangers who have used this form. I think using just 8ths looks "cleaner", but it is no more correct than the other.

In terms of using notation software to interpret it, I can see that it could be quite troublesome. I don't know how Musescore could be told to swing dotted 8ths and 16ths. It is probably not worth the effort, especially considering the size of the to-do list with which the coders are currently dealing.

I don't think we understand one another, but that's not important.

You can change the swing percent by right clicking the system text and choosing System Text properties. You can change the swing percentage to any ratio you like. Make two 8th = to the triplet is 67% and making it equal to the Dotted 8th followed by a 16th is 75%. 50% is the same as no swing.
