Automatic Placement

Is there a way to disable the Automatic Placement feature completely on Muse 3?

And if you are having trouble getting things to work as you like, I encourage you to follow up here, attach your score, and explain the problem. Chances are we can show you how to get done what you want much more efficiently without disabling autoplace.

I have been working on a score that was originally created in Sibelius 4.0, then exported as a .mxl file (from the current version of Sibelius) and imported into MuseScore. The import went well and all parts of MuseScore seem to be working well—except for the function of being able to move a whole line of lyrics in one system after the line has been successfully highlighted. (Left click on first word, right click, select more, same system.) That seems to select only the lyrics in the one system, but I cannot do what the 3.0 Manual (p. 149, external links, How to move Lyrics) says I can do: hold ctrl key after selecting and move the lyrics. If I deselect "Automatic Placement" I can move the lyrics individually (but not as a group) and they lose their formatting to avoid collisions . What happened to the old ability to move lyrics with the control key and keep automatic placement? The only work around that I have found is to simply accept the default placement of the lyrics and adjust the space between the two staves. See my 2 attached PNG files.

You have never been able to use arrow (or ctrl+arrow) keys to move a multiple selection like several lyrics. The only way to move multiple items at once is with the inspector. To move them right, increase x, to move them left decrease x to a negative number.

I did not say anything about arrow keys. And the only way to move the lyrics is to uncheck Automatic Placement in Inspector. Then you lose all formatting to prevent collision with other words or syllables. The main point is this: Page 149 of the manual for 3.0 is erroneous. It says that after all the lyrics are selected in one system they can be dragged with the mouse while holding the ctrl key. Doesn't work!

You don't have to turn off auto placement. Use click + click to add lyrics to the selection. You can then move lyrics using the inspector. If you move them to the right or left some space will be added to the appropriate measures to ensure the lyrics don't crash.

The "How to" is for version 2 and either needs to be updated or deleted as a link from the version 3 manual.

Can you attach your actual score and describe the problem you are trying to solve? By default, automatic placement should already be aligning your lyrics and adding space as needed, so manual adjustment should hardly ever be necessary, nor should you be needing to add space between staves very often. It isn't clear why you are trying to do either of those things here. If the goal is to make the lyrics be further from the staff above, simply change the "Lyrics top margin" setting in Format / Style / Lyrics.

The problem has nothing to do with the placement of lyrics. With this new auto placement, some of the bottom staves on the score fall off the bottom of the page, so is there a way to prevent the bottom of the music from not being on the page? Because when I go to print it, some of the staves aren't on the page. For example, on this page, there should be the cellos and double basses, but they get cut off.
