Won't beam over rests
I'm writing out a baritone saxophone part from a score because the printed part is missing, file attached.
It won't beam over the rests, as seen in the first 2/4 section yet if I test it on a new part the beam over rest function works fine.
I haven't used the line jump function to enter the 2/4 time signature, I've done it another way, but even if I take that out it still won't beam over rests.
So what have I done to prevent it beaming over rests here?

Have you tried selecting, for example, measures 14 - 20 and then double click on 'Auto' in the Beam Properties palette?

Yes I did try that but it gives exactly the same result.

No not at all..........but that's what I get when I use the beanm over rest function.
Attached is what I want, which has worked fine with the beam over rest in this sample, but it doesn't work with the bari sax part I'm working on and I don't know why it doesn't.
There's something else very strange going on with this part too. After the double bar in measure 43, try changing the key signature to concert B flat. It correctly changes the bari sax key signature to G, but then carries on the previous key signature in accidentals - what on Earth is going on here?

You have the beams for 8th notes set in groups of 2, which means on beat 2 you have a start beam. As long as this is set to start beam, you will never get that note to beam to the previous rest. You can change the beam pattern so this note is set to middle beam and you will get what you want. See https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/time-signatures#time-sig-properties for more info.

Mike, I have tried every combination of note grouping after right clicking the time signature as you suggest, and I still cannot get the beam over rest in the 2/4 section to work. Could I please test your patience a little more and ask you to try it for me and if you can make it work let me know how you did it.
Any thoughts on the key signature problem too?
Many tanks.

As they say, A picture is worth a thousand words.
In the score used in the video, the rests have already been set to auto or middle beam and I show two different ways to make the notes on beat 3 beam to the rests.

Got it! Thank you so much for your time and patience. I am most grateful and really appreciate your help.

With regard to the key signature problem I mentioned, it seems that a key signature change can't be addedd retrospectively, which is what I'm trying to do, (because, yes, I missed the key change on the score when I was was doing it). So it looks as as though I'm going to have to delete that whole seciton, make the key signatute change and then re-notate it. Ah well - we live and learn!

Hold on for the key signature. I didn't read about that. I'll get back to you soon.

Ok, I found the key signature discussion from several weeks ago at https://musescore.org/en/node/285207. Where are you trying to put the key signature and which key signature are you using for the sax? I can convert to concert pitch.

Mike, in the attachment to my original post there is a double bar at measure 44. Try changing the key signature in the bar to concert B flat. MuseScore correctly changes the baritone sax key signature to G, but it then carries on the previous key signature in accidentals. I have had to solve this issue by deleting that whole section, entering the key signature change, then re-notating the section. So it seems that MuseScore will not let you enter a key signature change retrospectively, it must be done before notation.

And finally..................for what it's worth, the final result.
Thanks again for all your help

What MuseScore does not do is repitch notes based upon the key signature. If you enter the wrong key signature (or forget to insert one) and the notes are wrong you must fix them. If there there are few or no accidentals that you want, you can select the section of music and press ctrl+shift+up arrow then ctrl+shift+down arrow to make ALL of the notes in the selection follow the key signature. If you have accidentals in this section you want, then you have to reenter them. If there are too many accidentals, it may be easier to simply delete the section and reenter it from scratch as you did, but that's a decision you will need to make on a case by case basis. I suspect, my shortcut would have been useful for you in this score.

Ah I see. Very helpful, thanks.

You originally wrote about 2/4 time signature beaming.
Now you show 4/4 time signature beamed in your 'sample.mscz'.
Or is this what you want?
See:

Yes, for the puroposes of the sample I used 4/4, but I do want it in the 2/4 section of the part I'm working on. Mike kindly offered a solution which I have tried to make work but can't. See my reply to him above.
