Moving score between Musescore 2 to 3 and back again.
(Forgive a newbie if this has already been raised somewhere in this forum.)
Moving the score back again seems impossible. I compiled a score in M. 2. For some reason the computer on which I did so (Windows XP) can't export directly into mp3 format, so I transferred it on a memory stick to my son's laptop (Windows 8). It invited me to re-size(?) the elements to suit M.3. I did so and created the mp3 file.
But it is a work in progress. When, in order to work further on it, I try to open the score again in M.2 on the older computer (which I prefer for various reasons) I get a message that it is unreadable. How do I make it readable?

Export this score with MS 3 as "musicxml" file.
To be able to export MP3 in older MuseScore 2 versions you need to find and install lame_enc.dll, in the later MuseScore 2 versions (and in MuseScore 3) that is not needed anymore, it comes as part of MuseScore now
So the easy answer is, update your musescore 2 to version 2.3.2 and it'll be able to export to mp3 as well (and you'll have loads of bugfixes compared to your current version).
The 2nd solution is, don't overwrite your score using musescore 3. Only save the score with MS2 and use MS3 only for exporting it to MP3.

The impression I get from these replies is that I'll know better next time, but that what I want to do this time can't be done, i.e. making the modified-for-MS3 version of my score readable in any version of MS 2....
Is that correct?

It is not directly possible, but via MusicXML export in MuseScore 3 and import in MuseScore 2
