Crashed and Lost Work
So, I was working on transcribing Take Five for my jazz group, but then Musescore crashed. Ordinarily that wouldn't be a big deal cause you'd be able to open it right back up on an auto save. But for some reason it said that the file that I had opened and was working on couldn't be recognized and basically I lost all the progress (I did save manually save a couple times, but it didn't act like I did when I tried to reopen it). I ended up deciding to delete that file entirely and make a new one to try to avoid that issue, but does anyone know why that might've happened and what I can do to make sure it doesn't happen again?

First of all, you should ask before you do anything drastic. It's possible the file could have been saved. Starting anew might have been your biggest mistake. Non-the-less, check out the instructions in https://musescore.org/en/node/52116 to see if there is any way to recover some of what you previously did.

It was still fresh in my mind, so I ended up completely rebuilding it from the ground up anyway.

Good answer about it being fresh in you mind. In the future, I suggest that if you decide to immediately restart your project before looking for backups, that you make sure to give it a new name, even adding v2 to the end would work. You will then have a better chance of finding the backups to the original file. If you use the same name, you will overwrite them.
