You need the notes to be the same duration and then use the tremolo bars that do not have a stem drawn through them in the tremolo palette. Apply the tremolo to the first note only. After you do this, all of the notes will look like they have doubled in duration. So if you want it to look like two half notes, use two quarter notes.

Add two quarter dotted notes, add the "32nd between notes"-tremolo from the "Tremolos"-palette, if required, change the style for the added tremolo inside the inspector.
