5 string bass tabs - cannot exceed 4th fret on low B string
Hi,
I'm transcribing a bass tab for a 5 string bass part. I figured out how to do tabs for a 5 string bass (B, E, A, D, G) but when I try to (for example) put a note on the 7th fret of the B string, it automatically moves it to the E string as a 2nd fret note. As it stands, I'm only able to use frets 0-4 on the low B string, even though I can use the whole range of frets on all other strings.
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Please post a score exhibiting the issue.
How does this one work for you?

Here's the file I'm working with.

The problem with that score is that the tablature and instrument are for a 4 string instrument. I don't see any notes that belong on the B string.

I may have accidentally uploaded an older version before I added the 5th string. This one is current.
RESOLVED.
Well, I never figured out what was causing the problem, but I was able to fix it by adding a new instrument and cutting and pasting the content from the old one to the new one.

Yeah... Where was the 5 string bass?
Regards.
The score shows 11 staves and 229 measures.
Please... where exactly is the problem.
Also, did you fix the corruption reported in one measure?

Well, just for example, in measure 5 I tried moving the Gb down from the 2nd fret of the E string down to the 7th fret of the B string.
No, I haven't figured out what went corrupt or how to fix it. I'd welcome help on that as well.

You can select the measure and exchange voices 1 & 2 twice, then select the measure and delete it. This will leave only a measure rest in the bad measure.

Exchange voices 1 & 2 once. Doing it twice puts everything back. (in ver, 3.0.5)
EDIT: That's weird... your method works also, after one presses Del.
In fact, just selecting the measure (without swapping voices) and pressing Del seems to work, too.

I always do the automatic double exchange. In the case of no notes present, I select the measure and press delete. As long as you can select the measure it works. In the case of notes present, I delete the voice 2 rest that's left and tell the author to look at the measure to assure it's still correct. I'm sure I do extra exchanges at times, but I have exchange voice 1 & 2 on a shortcut and it's so easy to quickly press the shortcut twice.
It would be more interesting to know how the measure got into that state, but I'd be surprised to find out that's possible.

The Load Error states:
Measure 160, staff 11 incomplete. Expected: 4/4; Found: 29/16
So... to fix:
1. Click on an empty spot in measure 160 (i.e., not the rests) to select it. A blue rectangle appears.
2. Use menu item: Tools -> Voices then click on 'Exchange Voice 1-2'. Press Esc.
3. Delete each of the rests in voice 2.

Regarding the current version score...

Hmm...
Measure 5 is completely empty.
Also...
You cannot exceed 4th fret on low B string.
Yet...
Measure 1 shows a note played on the 12th fret of the B string, yes?
Regards.

The problem is with the Acoustic Bass line, which does have content in the 5th measure. Sorry for the confusion.
I was able to fix the issue by creating this Electric Bass line that you're seeing now, and copying the note from the Acoustic to the Electric.
I started with a file that had a 4 string bass line (an oversimplified version) and I'm editing it to make it more accurate to the recording, so I originally tried adding a string to the 4-string acoustic bass, and that's where the problem originated.
Paste the 4 string bass line into the 5 string bass line. Move notes to different strings as needed.
Regards.

I would use staff properties and change the instruments to 5 string bass, then use the instruments dialog (press i) and change the tab to 5 strings.

OK, sounds good... and then delete the previously added staff.
(Instead of copy/pasting to the 'new' staff and then deleting the 'old' staff.

That's what I did in my tests.
@Jeffrey Hall...
Also...
When adjusting TAB, you can use standard selection methods - e.g. shift/click, ctrl/click - to avoid fixing each note one at a time.
