MuseScore_General_HQ string pizzicati has an echo

• Jun 3, 2019 - 00:09

I'm using MS 3.1 with the the HQ soundfont, and I find that some notes (not all of them) of the orchestral strings pizzicati present sort of an echo, as if not all the players played at the same time. Particularly from F#3 to A#3 the effect is too obvious and renders it almost unusable

I've found a workaround: Open the mixer, press the arrow above the viola channel (for instance) to show the three sub-channels, select pizzicato and from the patch list (which is very long) select Violas pizzicato (1), which I guess belongs to the MuseScore_General soundfont, which is the second one in my list of soundfonts in the synthesizer. This pizzicato seems better or at least more conistent.

There is a new problem. After this change, I don't seem to be able to get back to arco sound.
I've checked that the staff text properties are OK (normal), and also that the patch for viola-normal is Viola Expr.
This problem is not present for tremolo, only for arco. Arco after tremolo does not work either.
What may be happening?

Update: Actually no voice was selected in the staff text properties. When I selected voice 1 and set it to normal, the arco mark started to work!
However, the patch viola expr. was not correct for an ensemble (orchestra) sound, the correct one is Violas fast expr.

Update 2: It is strange, since I recall having created the file with the orchestra template, so I didn't choose any custom instrument but let MuseScore choose them for me instead. However, I created it some time ago when I was still using MS 2.3.3. May be the change of version and consequent soundfont update combined with my selection of a different pizzicato patch messed things up a bit.

The name of the channel for arco was called Normal in 2.3.2 (2.3.3 doesn't exist) and sometime between then and 3.0.5 the channel name was changed to Arco. If your score was created in 2.3.2, then the name is still Normal and the "pizz." text from the Text most likely has the wrong name in it. To fix this, open staff/part properties and use the change instrument button to change to the same instrument so the mixer will be updated.

Sorry, I meant 2.3.2.
I don't seem to understand. The staff/part properties allows me to change only the general instrument, not the internal patches. For instance, I had Viola instead of Violas, which I have now changed because Viola sounds more like solo viola.
But before that I had changed the channels, which are heavily linked to the loaded soundfonts. I accidentally closed the score and when I opened it again, all the patch changes I had done through the mixer were lost. Not so many changes: for all the strings I had changed the pizzicato channel for the old one (the non-HQ soundfont), which for the time being is more satisfactory. But how can I make this permanent? At least on my computer with the soundfonts I have loaded (to be sure, I checked "save to the score" in the synthesizer dialog).

The strange thing is that for the rest of the strings the arco works well, but not for the viola. The staff-text poperties are by default not assigned to any voice in the case of the viola, in contrast with the other instrumnts. The problem doesn't seem to be in the name of the arco channel but in the viola part itself.

I have a score I did the same thing with, created it in 2.x and am now working on it in 3.1. When I used the default arco text, there was no voice assigned, when I changed the instrument in staff/part properties, the voice automatically fixed itself. I've had custom text of my own that I've been using since 2.1, so I don't normally experience this problem.
