During playback of a string quartet with no nuances written in the score (so default nuance is used for playback), small duration notes are barely audible. I get the same result with an mp3 export.
Here is the score. I wanted to join the mp3 also but for some reason, it doesn't work.
For the record, I updated Musescore last night and everything was working fine.

This is a limitation of the current samples we have for the solo strings, all of which have a somewhat sluggish note attack. It is on my list of things to address as we continue improving the instrument sounds with better samples.

Thanks for the quick answer. I've been working the whole week on the transcription of this quartet and playback of solo string was never a big problem (I've updated to the last version of MS last night).
Was there any change made in this last version that could affect the way solo strings samples are being played back?

One solution is to change the voice type to tremolo,

How does one do that?
Okay, so I loaded your score, and both violins were set in the mixer to "Slow Violin Expr." Changing them to "Violin Expr." instead makes your notes audible again. The slow violin preset has a very slow attack (as one would expect), which makes the fast notes barely sound at all.

I'm not 100% sure but the last installer I found was 3.0.4 and yes I was using the standard soundfont

Thank you. It works!!! Somehow the defaul setting for V1 and v2 has been changed from "Violin Expr." to "Slow Violin Expr.". Related to the update I presume since I didn't change this setting.

Do you happen to have a backup copy of your score from before the MuseScore upgrade? I want to see if I can reproduce the preset change.

This score (the 4th movement) was done using solely this new version. But if that can be of any help, I have all of the other movements (1, 2, 3) which were done on the previous version. But these were working fine even in the new version.
I cannot reproduce the preset switch issue, but I know some issues with saving MIDI bank number were resolved for the latest MuseScore version (3.2.0) that were present in 3.1.0. I will close this bug, but if anybody experiences presets not being saved correctly in 3.2.0, please open a new bug report.

Hi Chris, I found it... It's the string quartet template. When I prepare a new score using it, by default, it creates the score with the ''Slow Violin Expr.'' patch for the violins.
By the way, I'm using Musescore in french. Maybe that's a factor (french template??) I don't know...
Bonne journée :)

Language pretty surely is unrelated.
But see #287762: Violin defaults to "slow" patch
