Way to go back and forth between one staff and two?
Is there a way to have a single staff split into two staffs, and then later switch back again? (I want this as a workaround for the inability to specify different dynamics for different voices on the same staff. For example, I'm working from a pocket score of Mozart's Serenade #10 KV361; each staff has two voices on it, e.g., Oboe 1 & 2 are on the same staff, Clarinet 1 & 2 are on a common staff, etc., (except for the double bass). For ease of checking my input against the hard copy, and because to see the entire score (vertically) with each part on its own staff, I have to zoom so far out that it becomes hard to read (that's the way I started), I'd prefer to enter it into MuseScore as I have it printed: one staff per instrument, two voices per staff. However, I've quickly (measure 2) run into the problem of not being able to independently control the volume of each voice (e.g., Clar. 1 is supposed to play its first phrase piano, and Clar. 2 is supposed to come in at forte, playing something entirely different, mid-way through Clar. 1's phrase; I've verified by muting all the other parts that the Clar. 1 phrase does switch to forte at the _forte_mark attached to Clar. 2's entry note). I've read the "workaround" of manually adjusting the velocity of individual voices, but it's unclear from what I've read if this manual change persists until a new dynamic or a new customization is entered, or if it only effects individual notes, so that it needs to be applied to every note in the "deviant" phrase. In either case, this strikes me as uninvitingly laborious, so I've thought of another workaround, at least in theory: temporarily split the one staff into two staves--since dynamics' effects are "by the staff"--for the duration of the two voices having different dynamics, then re-consolidate down to one staff while they share dynamics, and go back and forth as necessary. As, most of the time, not all staves require different voice dynamics at once, this would get around the different voices different dynamics problem, while still keeping most of the score "condensed." So, is this presently doable?)

You know HIDE EMPTY STAVES ?

I do now, but I don't see how to use this to accomplish what I want: can you elaborate as to its use on individual and ranges of measures on a single staff?

Enter all of the notes you want on the staves that will be partly hidden. After that, check hide empty staves in the style menu. When all measures on a system are hidden for an instrument, the staff will be invisible. Rather than Hide empty staves in the style menu, you can also open staff properties and change the hide when empty option to Always and it will only hide the staves for this instrument when empty. It's important to enter the notes first, otherwise you won't be able to see the staff to add notes.

Attached are screenshots of my Style state, and bars four through eight of the clarinet parts in the score I'm working on. You'll see in the former that I have "Hide empty staves within systems" checked, and yet in the latter, the empty bars in the second clarinet part are not hidden: am I doing something wrong, or am I misunderstanding what's supposed to happen?

First I'm French so I try with my English.....
I'm on M.S.2.3 For me it works but not in continue view, it works on "by page" and if, on a complète ligne you have empty staves only, the complete ligne will not be written, but, if in this ligne, for exemple with 6 bars, the last has simply an eight note, , this is not a whole line empty and the ligne will be written, with 5 bars empty and the last with the eight note.
Try to pass in view by page, and, by using rehersals marks, to have a complete ligne of empty bars to see if it's working

Thanks, Raymond, that did the trick!

I put a picture of a score , the first line, it's a guitarist-singer, he does not sing in page 1, so only the line of guitar, in page 2 he begins to sing at the end of tne line, the 2 lines are written, sing and guitare
line 3 the bass , he is guitarist-singuer, page 1 and 2 he does not sing, so, only the line of bass, but page 3, he begins to sing, so the 2 liens are written.
In page 3, F1 F2 F3 F4 are women singuers, they don't sing in page 1 and 2 so, they are not on the score, they appears on page 3 because they begins to sing
