Changing Instruments
Hi. I have written a two stave piece of music, both staves being in treble clef. Playback is set for the default piano sound. I would like to hear it back with the top line being violin, and the second line being acoustic guitar. I have so far been unable to make this happen.
Thanks!

Are both staves added as different instruments or the same instrument? See Edit → Instruments
To just change the playback sound used for an instrument, use the mixer (F10)

Neither is labeled as anything.

So what is shown on the right part of the Edit → Instruments dialog then?

Staff one treble clef standard
Staff two bass clef standard
(Even though staff two is bass clef)
Right click on the stave > stave/part properties > change instrument >(choose instrument) > OK > OK. Since all instruments are in concert pitch there will be no automatic key changes although your bass clef will probably change to octave treble clef for the guitar..

It sounds like this won't work. I'm not sure where the score came from, but it sounds from his description that there is one instrument with two staves, so change instruments will change both staves.
If you open the mixer (press F10) and there are two instruments, you can assign any sound you want to each instrument, otherwise you need to add another instrument (press i and read https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/create-new-score#add-instruments). You can then copy the second staff to the new instrument and delete the second staff in the first instrument then change the instruments as Peter B suggested.

Ah, OK, I misunderstood the original post. Perhaps if it could be posted we could see what it is.

You are correct. It would be easier if we had the actual score.
