When I try to open the .mus file in musescore 3, I get an error that it is an unknown file type.
Can you please help me as to how to export it to . mcsx file type.

In finale there is an export or save as option that will allow you to save the file as a .musicxml or .xml file. MuseScore knows how to open these. Finale does not make .mscx files.
I know the dolet plugin is required for older Sibelius versions, but I don't think it's needed for Finale.

From Finale you have to export in a format compatible with MuseScore, see: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/3/opensaveexportprint#open-file

Hi,
Thank you for your prompt response.
I have checked the above link but it was not of much help.
The file that I am trying to open in musescore 3 was created in an earlier version of musescore. Ever since I installed musescore 3, I uninstalled all previous versions of musescore and after that the file has automatically become a .mus extension file. I even tried to attach that file here for your reference but it displays a message that format not supported while attaching that file.
Could there be any other work around to convert it to be opened in musescore 3?

MuseScore never ever saved to, or convert to or from .mus files.
And all major versions can stay installed and even get used in parallel.
FInale uses .mus but can export to Musicxml (.musicxml, .mxl or .xml), possibly with the help of the Dolet plugin, which in turn MuseScore can import

If you are using Windows OS and do not have a Finale software, open it with the Finale-Notepad (free) and try exporting in XML format.

That's what I use frequently. It works fine.
I switched from Finale to MuseScore a while ago and my Finale Allegro is too old to support MusicXML, so I use Finale-Notepad for MusicXML export.

Dear Friends I have another problem...
I don't have Finale and have to open with Musescore .musx and .mus files.
I have Mac Os Catalina nad Notepad is not supported...
Any idea?
