Cleaning up PDF imports
When I import a pdf, I often end up with grayed-out ghost-like rests that I can't seem to delete (see attached image). How can I clean these up?

Select the measures->Edit/Voices.../Exchange Voice1 -2

While the rests of voices 2, 3, and 4 can be deleted, rests in voice 1 are permanent. However, they can be hidden, if required, by making them invisible.

Welcome.

This doesn't really seem to help much. It hides the rests, but adds a different symbol above the staff. Furthermore, the playback still recognizes the hidden rests.

Why using a voice other than 1 then?
And how do rests play back?

I am starting with a simple melody in pdf format. When I run it through the Musescore converter, the second voice is added there. I don't need the second voice.
The rests in the second voice cause the playback to pause for the specified amount of time.

The import gets confused, especially when it encounters tuplets (like triplets). It rarely interprets these correctly and starts moving things into voice 2, 3 or 4 as needed to make room for the notes. In the case of tuplets, you will need to delete the measure and reenter it.
If there are no tuplets involved you can select the measure and click the voice 1 button (or press ctrl+alt+1) to move all of the notes into voice 1. Note that this doesn't move tied notes to another voice so you may need to resort to exchange voices 1 & 2, then move all of the notes into voice 1 if there is a tied note in a voice besides 1.
Cleaning up an imported PDF that does this often takes more time that entering the score from scratch. The import tool is still quite experimental, so never get your hopes too high that it will enter the score for you.

Thank you, that makes sense. Yes, it IS easier sometimes to just enter the notes from scratch. The PDF converter is SOOOOOO close to being really good...wish they could just take the next step!
