No playback of score after generating parts

• Sep 30, 2019 - 04:48

This is a new one. After finishing a score and generating parts, the score will not play. The individual parts play back fine and the I/O tab looks OK. but nothing happens when pressing the spacebar or clicking the play icon if I'm looking at the full score. This is not a complex score, 6 instruments and about 96 measures long.

I had to restart the program while working on the score a couple times this evening to restore playback, but now restarting MuseScore does not solve the problem, nor does restarting my sound drivers.

Musescore 3.2.3.22971, Macbook Pro 2012, Mojave 10.14.6, 8GB RAM

When looking at the full score, does the blue position marker move across the score when playback is activated?
Have you checked the mute and volume settings in the Mixer?

Not Mixer related, and no, the position marker was not moving. It did start working finally, but was not playing repeats correctly, so I turned off Hear Repeats and was able to finish my work for the evening.

Is there a tutorial specifically on handling repeats that are inside other repeated material? That seems to have been the problem, at least since I restarted the program last time.

Thanks!

Nested repeats (repeats within repeats) are a bad idea because of the potential confusion of matching which end repeat corresponds to which start repeat.
However...
Repeats within a jump (like a D.S. or D.C.) are more common situations. MuseScore can now play such repeats.

What exactly are you trying to do?

It's a pretty standard jazz tune - a 8 bar A music that repeats once and then goes on to the B music; and that whole pattern repeats itself with variations several times, with the same A music repeat within each cycle. I wondered if there's some setting in the Inspector that can sort that out.

OK, I can easily turn off "hear repeats" as noted but I just thought it was weird that after working correctly all day, it stopped after parts were generated, and the individual parts still played correctly even after the score stopped playing. Should I send it in as a bug report? Using rehearsal marks as a roadmap to repeated sections seems like it could be a way to handle this.
