How to add a beam over a quarter or longer rest
In this example we have a beam between two eighth notes separated by one or more eighth value rests: https://musescore.org/en/node/11370
But is it possible to do it also with larger rest values between the notes to link with the beam, like a quarter or a half rest between the eighth notes?

You must have 8th notes or shorter to beam them, just like the actual notes. You can use another voice for a longer rest and make only the short rests invisible by pressing v. Note that the longer rest will be placed in the same spot as the first shorter rest would have been placed. You can move this rest in the inspector.
