Simple question - How to add more lines?

• Jun 27, 2010 - 12:02

Hello,

I am a very new user to musescore and also a very new user to music theory. I want to add
more notes to my score, but have ran out of lines. Pressing INSERT will add more measure
to the the same line. I do not want that. Somehow I could not find the command to add more
lines. How is it done?

Thanks in advance!

Do you want to add more lines as in you have 1 instrument and want another line of music for a different instrument? If so, go to the 'Create' menu and choose 'Instruments' and select the new instrument you would like to add.

Hope this helps.

I don't know if this is the best way, but what I do is add more measures just as you've found to do, and when I want to force a new line I use the "Insert Line Break" command to the measure where I want to start a new line.

Find that in "Layout > Breaks and Spacers" which will open up the "Breaks and Spaces" window. (Keep that window open, just minimize it and don't close it as you'll use it often)

Then drag the "Line Break" icon over to the measure that you want to insert the line break after, when the measure highlights drop it in there and you'll get your line break.

Hope this helps!

Thanks! That is exactly what I was looking for. After doing a line break, I did a
Create -> Measures -> Append Measures which enabled me to continue adding
more notes.

While I will adapt to the methods of MuseScore, I do wonder if this way is a bit
too obscure for a total beginner like me ....
