You used a font that is not seen by MuseScore 3 for some reason.
I don't see any such strange blocks and rectangles. in MuseScore 3.3.2 on Windows 7

That was the problem. I changed the font. Annoying. Thank you.
On the same computer you should be able to see the same fonts on both versions of MuseScore. If they're different computers, find the font and install it on the version 3 computer.
