Uneven staff spacing
I know this has been discussed several times before, but it's hard to find a recent thread/solution that applies directly to my situation.
In the attached score, in the middle of an editing session I noticed a large gap between the background vocal and the Piano staves on page 3 of the score. (this apparently appeared while I was working on some other page) I tried decreasing staff spacing as suggested in another thread, but it made no apparent difference to this score.

Yes, thank you. How did you do that? (and what is that vertical line in Measure 11?)

Yeah, I figured that out when I looked at the status bar. I wonder why this is necessary?

I am not a technician...
but I could accuse the automatic placement ;-)
The text demands its space.
It seems to be caused by measure 10 ("Back Vocal"), selecting this measure and pressing "del" seems to solve it.

Yup.
Weird. I can say for certain that I have done nothing with that particular measure for quite some time.
I don't know what it is because I didn't look in the .mscx file, but there is something attached to the measure before rehearsal mark B in the background vocals. Select that measure and press delete and it will fix your spacing problem.

I've now looked into the .mscx file and you had started to enter something into verse 5 and then left a relic that caused the extra space.

Ok, that makes sense to me now. I had tried to enter the character names as lyrics under the rest. (I don't think this was even possible before MS3) Oddly enough, when I tried that, each successive CTRL+L skipped a verse, so that the names were entered as verse 1, 3, and 5, instead of 1, 2, 3. I then deleted the whole mess and tried again, and got the correct result. Funny that there was no visible artifact, but enough to disturb my display.
Thanks, Mike!
