Trouble formatting a cadenza
I'm writing a 3 movement concerto for solo and string orchestra with each movement separated by a section break in a single score. For the cadenza, is there a way I can have only the solo instrument in the score? Hiding empty bars is not ideal because it will hide instruments that i want to be shown elsewhere in the score, even when they are empty. Is there maybe a way to hide empty bars only for a specific section of the score?

Can I never hide only for specific sections?

Not directly, no. But I'm not sure I understand the exact scenario here. Which instruments do you want hidden, and which not? Are you saying you want a full score - all empty staves hidden - except during the cadenza? Only way I can think to do that is to use hide empty staves but put invisible/silent content to prevent staves from being hidden where you don't want.
Ultimately this is something I'd like to see more control over, I've made a few proposals along these lines but nothing concrete.

I'm trying to keep everything visible except during the cadenza, where i want only the solo to be visible. The problem with adding invisible silent notes in the rest of the score is that it will no longer compress these bars into multi bar rests in the individual parts.

Add another staff with the invisible notes in it and hide the whole staff. No, it won't win any beauty prizes.
