Texted braces and brackets
The ability to add text to a bracket that is not part of a keyboard instrument. Let's say you have two flutes. I'd like to connect the flutes with a brace, remove the instrument names and just call them 1 and 2, and then put the instrument name on the brace. When you select the brace or bracket and invoke Inspector, it'll have the column adjustment, but also the long instrument names and short instrument names.

Personally would rather see the long/short instruments names become directly editable right there as a text when double-clicking the text, and maybe when clicking the name, also show in the inspector the long and short names to have access to both long and short quickly. This wouldn't require to remove the ability to do so in the staff properties, but reflect those. Don't see the need to have the names connected to a bracket.

Here is a typical string orchestra arrangement. All this is done automatically by MuseScore, except for the Roman numerals and the periods, which I added myself.
Now here is the arrangement from the first page of Debussy's "La Mer":
Fortunately in "La Mer", only the first page requires the violin bracket to be named. But there are many examples where the brackets enclosing groups of instruments are named. I've seen "Archi" replace all of the string names, although I can't remember the piece right now. Sure you can create text and position it next to a bracket, give it a short and long name, and call it a day. But when you have 100 systems of music, each one with nine brackets that have to be altered that way, it makes sense to simply let the brackets themselves remember what they are.

Makes sense. Maybe some kind developer will spend time their implementing what you want.
For now, why not add some line-breaks inside the properties->instrument names to get them aligned in the middle and remove the second instrument name so you don't have to add text to every system? Then again, a problem with that is if there's an incongruity of spacing due to staff spacers, etc, but it does seem to be a work-around if the vertical spacing is consistent throughout the score.

Here's a supposedly important question:
How would you go about methodologizing the action? Your first two staves are consolidated into one instrument name with an extra bracket, yet the last two staves have an extra bracket but do not have any consolidation. That is, how would MuseScore know, for example, when to "replace" the instrument texts with a centered, one-instrument name, versus how it is shown at the bottom two instruments where both are still shown not centered?

When you first create the score, you can add a brace name. You must still delete any names for the individual staves. So for the Violoncelles and Contrebasses, the names are not deleted, and no brace name is set. If a brace name is set, this can hide the instrument names or not. There would be an option to automatically hide. I've seen this:
____ 1st
VIOLINS |
____ 2nd
Where that ugly bracket I drew is a bracket. In this case you would name the bracket VIOLINS, and it would come before the instrument names, which in this case is 1st and 2nd. Musescore would know when to replace the instrument names with nothing, or with something else, with the option switch: "Hide Instrument Names When Bracket Names Exist" or something like that.
