Recent problem with Muse Score 3
My Muse Score pro account was relatively trouble free until this week, but when I open the website from my normal desktop shortcut I'm now getting an error message which tells me that the previous session shut down automatically.
I'm offered a choice to reopen the previous session, even though there was no 'unexpected shutdown'.
If I click the No box the Muse Score page defaults to the blank score, if I click the Yes box Muse Score asks me to log in, takes me to my profile page after log in, and then the website simply shuts down.
My account is up to date, in fact my fee was again taken automatically only yesterday, so this inability to use what I've just paid for is extremely frustrating at what for me is a very busy period.
I tried downloading Muse Score 3 again, the set up wizard appeared to work ok but the installation never started.
Any suggestions?

It seems you may be confused between Musescore Pro (which is a subscription to a different website) and the actual MuseScore notation software, which is always free and is something you download onto your computer and run and does not involve logging into a website (unless you explicit choose to "Save Online" for a particular score). It sounds like your problem involves the MuseScore notation software. But, answer "yes" to the question about restoring a session should never ask you to log in to anything, so I'm confused. In any case, you are not paying for the MuseScore notation software, which is always 100% free. You are paying for an account on the score sharing website musescore.com.

Thank you for your reply Marc.
Because of the recurring problems with my MuseScore Pro account I used the 'Contact' email link shown on my software and the reply from Muse Score directed me to this forum to ask for advice.

And indeed, if your problem is w it h the MuseScore notation software, this is the right place. But your description of the problem is not clear. You appear to be suggesting that merely answering “Yes” to the question of restoring your last session directs you to log in, and that just plain should not be possible - MuseScore does not even have a login screen, except the one you get by choosing “Save Online”.
So, what specifically goes wrong when you choose Yes? It should simply load the scores you were last working on. And even if it doesn’t, you can load them yourself normally, via the File menu.

Perhaps because to them it was equally unclear whether you're talking about the free desktop notation software (which indeed is supported through these forums, but aside from "Save Online" has nothing to log in to) or the online score sharing platform (which isn't supported on these forums, and indeed is a website and does have a log in and a Pro subscription).
To me, it is now still unclear whether you have issues with the notation program or the online score sharing platform.

Thank you Marc and Jeetee for your replies.
I'm talking about issues with the online sharing platform to which I log in to access my Pro subscription.
It would appear that the admin from MuseScore who replied to my earlier email to them has mis-directed me with her link to this forum.
The error messages that I received showed a dialogue box which offered a Yes / No choice to return to the page that had (supposedly) crashed.
I should imagine that the Muse Score 3 Beta version that I used was corrupted in some way.
Not to worry, I've now re-installed MuseScore 3 which has automatically updated the settings.
I haven't yet attempted to save a notation score online to the main sharing website which crashed when I was trying previously, but will try later.

It still seems you are confusing the two. The only Yes/No dialog I am aware of is the one within the MuseScore editor. Unless perhaps your web browser happens to provide a similar dialog. I know Chrome has something that says offers to restore the tabs that were last open. Maybe that's what you mean? It would help if you posted the exact text of the error message, and tell us precisely what happens when you press Yes.

The error message appears and it informed me that the previous session shut down unexpectedly.
A dialogue box appears underneath this message to ask if I'd like to restore the previous session with two click buttons yes / no.
For the information of anyone who may be curious, no matter which button I clicked on each occasion the website either failed to load my log in or profile page for a Pro account on MuseScore 3, or when the profile page did load it appeared briefly and hen disappeared or switched itself off.
I overcame the problem myself by clicking on the download link from this webpage under Software, shutting down all other operations and downloading a fresh version of MuseScore 3 which has resolved the issue.
My guess is that because I tried out the new features on the Beta version of MuseScore 3 the platform software became corrupted or in conflict with my anti-virus software.
Problem solved now, everything is working fine again, thanks for taking the trouble to try to help

First off, glad your issue is sorted.
Secondly, your story is still very confusing to us (? or at least, to me :) ).
The error message appears and it informed me that the previous session shut down unexpectedly.
When? After attempting to start MuseScore (the software)? Or after opening a web browser to surf to musescore.com?
no matter which button I clicked on each occasion the website either failed to load my log in or profile page for a Pro account on MuseScore 3, or when the profile page did load it appeared briefly and hen disappeared or switched itself off.
Here is the confusing part; if you were talking about starting the software, then there is no website to load or log in or profile page or anything related to a Pro account going on at all.
My guess is that because I tried out the new features on the Beta version of MuseScore 3 the platform software became corrupted or in conflict with my anti-virus software.
Once again, I fail to see how running a Beta version is related to your subscription in any way.

Hi,
Not necessary as your issue is solved, but if you could post a print screen of what you mean by starting your pro account that would clarify things for us as it is still mysterious...

Hi Jeetee
I'm sorry that I've caused some confusion here, I'm not really a computer expert but I'll try to clarify the points that you raised.
You wrote: 'The error message appears and it informed me that the previous session shut down unexpectedly.
When? After attempting to start MuseScore (the software)? Or after opening a web browser to surf to musescore.com?'
I open MuseScore from a desktop shortcut on my laptop. This shortcut had always worked with no problem until recently. I clicked the shortcut and the error message appeared on my screen.
I was able to open MuseScore via a web browser but after a few seconds the platform would shut down and disappear from my screen.
You wrote: 'Here is the confusing part; if you were talking about starting the software, then there is no website to load or log in or profile page or anything related to a Pro account going on at all.'
The desktop shortcut navigated to my MuseScore account, which in appearance looks similar to a free account but the Pro account has more capacity to store scores.
To access a Pro account it is necessary to complete the log in procedure by entering a username and password into the appropriate boxes on the log in page.
On the profile page my picture is top right with an arrow which leads to a drop down which contains amongst other things the link to log in.
You wrote: 'Once again, I fail to see how running a Beta version is related to your subscription in any way.'
I could be wrong but Beta versions of any software, including MuseScore, contain as yet relatively untested features.
Beta versions of MuseScore are automatically forwarded to Pro account holder for them to try out various features if they wish to do so.
The issues with the software only appeared after I tried the latest Beta version of Muse Score 3.
Having now installed MuseScore 3 from the link at the bottom of this webpage, the issues are resolved.
I hope that my replies will clarify the situation.

Aha.. so the shortcut you had on your desktop was a shortcut to the website, not the program at all. That does clear up some confusion indeed!
I was able to open MuseScore via a web browser
Aaand it's back again :)
In these forums, when you write about "MuseScore", people are assuming that you mean the notation software (as that is what these forums are all about). It isn't something you can open with a web browser, but a standalone program on your pc.
Beta versions of MuseScore are automatically forwarded to Pro account holder for them to try out various features if they wish to do so.
This statement is not true as well. The beta version of the notation software is freely available to anyone.
I'm a Pro subscriber myself, but there is definitely no automatic forwarding (from where?) to the beta version specifically for Pro users at all. I repeat again; a Pro subscription on the website is completely unrelated to the notation software.

We seem to be communicating at cross purposes here.
I was directed to this forum via email by a person called Paula Abdul from MuseScore who assured me that I would receive help and advice with the issues that I described.
If this forum deals only with notation issues then I was wrongly directed.
If the terminology that I've used doesn't fit, it's a shame but I did my best to clarify the situation.
I resolved the issue myself as I pointed out, so for me further discussion is futile.
Thanks for your input, I'm out.

You are correct that beta versions may have bugs, although so may released versions. Still, you are missing the main point here. I will try to be as clear as I possibly can.
The MuseScore notation progeam that runs on your computer is not a website and has no login. At no time and in no way will starting MuseScore on your computer ever attempt to open a web page or ask you to login in. It is just physically not possible. Similar, logging into your musescore.com account on your web browser will not ever open MuseScore on your computer. The two things are entirely separate.
So when you say "the desktop shortcut navigated to my MuseScore account", that is just flat out impossible - if you are talking about the desktop shortcut for the MsueScore notation program. Maybe you created a desktop shortcut yourself for the website, if so, then that is another matter but it would have nothing to do with the MuseScore notation program.
And when you say "I was able to open MuseScore via a web browser", again, you are not talking about the MuseScore notation program. That cannot be opened by a web browser (well, you can download a score and then ask your web browser to ask your OS to open the score, which will do it indirectly). So if that's what you did, OK, that makes sense. And if so, nd MuseScore opened the score you downloaded but then crashed, we'd want information on what you were doing when it crashed. Like, attach your score here and give us steps to reproduce the problem.

So, if for example I were to enter MuseScore into, say, a Google search box I'd navigate straight to a notation programme?
That's not the case for me.
A search would indeed navigate to a page that would lead to a music notation page, but the opening page that first appears contains a download link and details of what MuseScore can offer, plus click buttons which lead to examples of the scores already published.
At the top of this download page is a blue header with the log in feature top right.
To use the software to save or to share scores I'd need to log in to my account.
I'm logged in now.
Obviously, as stated earlier I was directed to the wrong forum via an email from Muse Score.
This forum appears to be primarily concerned with music notation issues, I was seeking technical advice with regard to the software.
I managed to resolve the problem that I had by downloading MuseScore again, a procedure which automatically removed the corrupted software, so I will now bow out from this forum.

This forum here is about the MuseScore software. It is not about the music sharing site musescore.com.
A Google search would find the place where to get the MuseScore program to download (on musescore.org) and install on your PC, but it won't find or start the already installed MuseScore program.
To use the software you do not need to sign in anywhere, only to save score online you'd need to, or to download score from there.
In reply to So, if for example I were to… by spartakus
A Google search can take you to a website, it cannot take you to the MuseScore software you have installed on your computer. The page with the download button allows you to download MuseScore to your computer, and it allows you to login to the website if you happen to have also chosen to create an account there and feel like loggin in, but that account and logging are only about tyhe website. They have nothing to do with actually running the software you downloaded and installed onto your computer.
To use MuseScore on your computer, you do not need any sort of account anywhere. And if you do happen to have one, logging into it does not help you run MuseScore at all. MuseScore does not care one way or another if you have an account on some website, and it certainly does not care if you are logged into that account or not.
So, again, if you are having problems using the MuseScore software you previously downloaded and installed on your computer, then you are in the right place. But if your problem has to do with using the website, thats different, and going to the support for that is what you'd need to do.
Right now it seems you still aren't clear about the fact that there is a program on your computer and there is a website and they are two different things. Either you are talking about the program or you are talking about the website.

I sorted the problem with the software out yesterday and posted on this forum about how I did it.
None of the replies from this forum so far offered any constructive advice about what to do, this latest offering is bordering on passive / agressive which is helpful to nobody.
I'm done, bye.

Sorry the reply somehow came off as anything but helpful; it was intended to be helpful and nothing more. I did get that you worked around the problem you were having. But we'd still like to clear up the confusion you are having, as it is likely to cause further problems in the not distant future. So if/when it does, you can always come back here and re-read information we have provided to you and it will hopefully help when you're ready.
