MuseScore Using A Screen Reader

• Jan 30, 2020 - 13:08

Hi Guys:
I had looked at converting .gpxx files to music xml a few months ago.
I now have the time and confidence to work on this project as well as learn, step by step, various other features of muse score.
I plan to document every step for everything I do from downloading to firing it up to downloading .gpx files and then converting them to music xml files - the first feature I need for a project I will be working on.
After that I will look at perhaps other input formats and then features to actually use the native Muse Score features to read, play and perhaps modify or create guitar or ukulele tablature or standard notation for songs.
I have found that keeping a step by step diary lends itself to creating decent documentation for other blind novice users since a step by step includes everything from the keyboard.I would like the version Marc Sabatella  has modified recently if possible.
I run a Windows10 machine.
Also, I forget but can I get notified of any replies to this thread via my e-mail address, is there an autonotify feature for these forums?
Thanks guys:
Rick USA

Unfortunately, as far as I can tell neither the Windows 10 desktop client nor the web interface are not accessible with NVDA anyhow. That's a bummer. But, still, it sounds like you're not likely to be involved in programming, so there isn't much of interest there. The forums are the better place for most discussions, including comments on the interface, proposals for improvements, etc.
[Jojo, that is why I think i may do some docs for blind novices rather than some programming - Rick]
Here's a link to a recent build I made with a bunch of my pending accessibility improvements if youd like to try it out:
...
Doesn't have the tab fix yet or a couple of other tweaks I made in the last few days, but it should be much better than the current 3.2.3. I plan to do another build once the previous changes are merged into the master branch.
[Jojo, do you know if his last mentioned changes were merged into the current production version of MuseScore, or perhaps Mark might see this thread.
Thanks and I did get that e-mail notification as you noted.

Hello!

The current version of MuseScore - 3.4.1 - already includes the changes I mentioned from September. So it should already be perfectly well usable with NVDA. Unfortunately there is also now a bug where the very first time you start MuseScore, a dialog appears that is not accessible at all. So you will need a sighted person to read it and click a button for you, or wait a couple of days for the 3.4.2 update to fix that.

Further good news for blind users - I now have a JAWS script to enable that screen reader to work with MuseScore, and we also have a pending change to get it working with Orca on Linux. I'll be posting more about this once 3.4.2 comes out and I find a good place to make the scripts available for download.
