hitting space bar at the beginning of a text frame zaps my view over to the next page

When I open a text frame and begin with spaces (this is usually because I am trying to get note names lined up with notes) each time I hit the space bar it zaps me over to the next page. It does create a space but I have to repeatedly scroll back to the page before in order to continue typing. This has happened in a couple of different instances. I can work around it by zooming out so that the next page is also in view, then it doesn't do this. Anyone know why this is happening or if it is just a bug?
