how to use counterpoint in musescore?
i need to notate counterpoint in musescore, however the only info i can find on it is a plugin that apparently only checks counterpoint. any advise is appreciated.

What are you trying to do, specifically? There are no special tricks to creating counterpoint in MuseScore, unless maybe you mean you want multiple voices on a single staff, in which case you want to see the Handbook under "Voices".
If that doesn't help, could you be a bit more specific about what you are needing help with?

However i cannot notate the piano stave in musescore as the notes contradict each other so musescore wont let me. i am told this is called counterpoint but i honestly know nothing else.

It's actually dead easy to do this in MuseScore. You'll need to use 2 voices in the piano RH. See the attached example below (and also the handbook section on voices here: https://musescore.org/en/handbook/voices-0 ):
